"The Region's Most Unique Festival"
The 4th annual MIDLANDS PIRATE FESTIVAL
sails into its beachhead August 27/28th
(11am to 6pm) at the Bellevue Berry & Pumpkin Ranch.
Not only is it catching on as one of the region's premier events,
it is also helping transform its Papillion site into a unique theme
park complete with a stranded pirate ship and new pirate tavern. Various
other fun features have been added such as the vast winding treasure
cave, the children's Neverland treehouse realm, and the battle arena
stadium.
Staged by the same people who produce the annual Nebraska Renaissance
Faire, this step back into history re-enacts the era of the (1600s
through 1700s) Caribbean buccaneers and British privateers.
While geared towards 'family entertainment' this pirate fest also
showcases a few stage shows that will attract mature audiences as
well. With the colorful variety of such acts as the Bawdy Buccaneers,
the Capt. Hook & Smee Show, the Banished Misfortunates, Crazy
Boy Coy, the Do Chang Pirates, and the "Magical Pirate's Puzzle"
by the Royale Pirates of Tortuga local audiences will see entertainment
from Minneapolis to Kansas City. Other stage acts and numerous village
characters will join these performers.
And it's not just the stage shows that have been drawing a crowd to
this festival. Some forty different hands-on games, activities, learning
demonstrations, artisan exhibits and competitions will keep it a well-rounded
adventure for everyone attending.
Additionally, there will be a gathering of novelty craft merchants
on hand to keep the village marketplace a lively encounter for shoppers.
Another feature of this land-locked nautical experience are the wide
variety of freshly prepared foods and cold beverages, offered throughout
the grounds and at the beer garden. This year's focus will be on the
barbecued delights created by Captain Ed and his galley crew of outdoor
grilling cooks. Other treats such as Bud’s Rootbeer and Kettle
Corn will be available.
Treasure hunts and game prizes will be abundantly offered to those
who wish to search the elaborately themed Pirate's Cave or engage
in the challenging games of skill.
Tickets to the Midlands Pirate Festival can be had right at the entrance
gate. Discounted tickets can be obtained in advance via www.etix.com
or all Homers locations for $8 adult and $4 children prices. Regular
admission is $10 for adults and $6 for kids from 3 to 12 years old.
Discounts are also available for groups of ten or more. Special thanks
to our event sponsor, Omaha area Long John Silvers.
